
Blacksmithing 104: Introduction to Knife-Making Class
Step into the world of blade forging with our Introduction to Knife-Making class! This hands-on course will teach students how to craft a Viking-style blacksmith’s knife from a single piece of 1075 carbon steel.
What You’ll Learn:
- Drawing out a blade, tang, handle, and guard from one piece of steel
- Proper forging techniques to shape and refine the knife
- Hardening and tempering for durability and edge retention
- Grinding and finishing to bring the blade to its final shape
This class is designed for those eager to explore knife-making, but it is highly recommended that students first complete Blacksmithing 101 to gain a foundational understanding of shop setup, coal fire management, forge operation, and working with heated steel.
Class Details:
- Date & Time: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (7 hours of instruction with a 1-hour lunch break)
- Class Size: Limited to 5 students
- Age Requirement: Students under 18 must be accompanied by an observing adult (no fee for the adult)
- Cost: $150 per student
What to Bring & Wear:
- Closed-toe shoes, long pants, and a long-sleeved shirt (required for safety)
